ives™ for Women Attorneys

Not Your Ordinary Seminar………… At regular intervals, Whittier Legal Consulting creates a premier speaking series that incorporates cutting edge information and techniques. These sessions go beyond the basics – by incorporating studies, surveys, market data and one-on-one interviews to bring participants the ultimate mix of available information. What’s more, we use a unique combination of written, oral, and visual input to provide a highly memorable experience that is designed to make an impact and underscore key points.

For 2007-2008, we are pleased to announce that our new series is PROSPECTives™, a collection of unique business development seminars and workshops that focus on how women attorneys can quickly and easily adopt a mindset for successfully building independent books of business.

PROSPECTives™ 1: Thinking Your Way to New Client Opportunities is the foundational program that sets the stage for the entire (5 session) PROSPECTives™ series. We will demonstrate how women lawyers can adopt a mindset – starting now – to:

  • See and recognize the many business opportunities that surround them
  • Confidently approach and connect with target opportunities
  • Tap into their communications skills reservoir when business development scenarios arise
  • Plant and reap the seeds of effective follow up

We are now offering this foundational program free of charge to a limited number of law firms throughout the United States. (Reimbursement for travel charges will be requested). This is an intensive session, packed with information for opening up vistas that already are within reach. If you and your lawyers like the program, you have the option to sign up for any or all of the additional PROSPECTives™ units – which can take place in person, by teleconference, or through a webinar. And even though the PROSPECTives™ series was designed with women lawyers in mind, everyone is warmly invited!

Toni Whittier is a frequent speaker on business development and law firm management and leadership. She has spoken at events sponsored by bar associations, the National Association of Women Lawyers’ 2006 annual conference, ACC (Association of Corporate Counsel) forums, and has been retained by law firms to speak on topics ranging from “How to Talk to Clients about Money” to the power of effective follow up and handling key communications inside and outside the firm.


2007 RETREAT PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS

We are currently offering these ½ day retreat programs and workshops:

  1. Brave New World. Many law firms are placing an increased emphasis on individual marketing and business development – in a way that can directly affect attorney promotions and compensation. Here, we’ll discuss how to react positively to these rising expectations – and prosper. Together, we’ll talk about what law firms want and why. Then we’ll cover a variety of ways to make a transition that benefits everyone. Identify your preferred zones of concentration for business development and understand the “rules” that will help you chart the way to your future.
  2. All About Pitches and Presentations: An in-depth look at how to prepare for, coordinate, present, and follow up on formal and informal pitches. Rethink how you approach these opportunities in light of feedback from in-house counsel, as well as pertinent studies on effective communication, persuasion, and making a connection. Make the most of your selling opportunities by understanding the many factors that can influence the success of a pitch or presentation.
  3. Business Development Basics: A primer on the fundamentals of effective business development, including how-tos for networking systematically, making the most of receptions and after-hour events, introducing yourself with power, maximizing speaking and writing opportunities, contributing to current client development efforts - and more. This program was designed to give guidance to law firm associates and those new to private practice so that they can start making strides today and build the foundation for successful business generation tomorrow.
